Primary Years Programme

History of IB

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IB) was established in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland. There are more than 611,000 IB students at 2,300 schools in 127 countries. The IB offers a wide range of services to the schools authorized to administer its programmes, such as curriculum and assessment development, teacher training, and seminars.

There are three programmes for students aged 3 to 19 designed to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. The Primary Years Programme for students ages 3-12, the Middle Years Programme for students ages 11-16 and the Diploma Programme for students ages 16-19.

IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the IBO works with schools, government, and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
