Mrs. Atkins has been a school counselor at Millbrook Elementary since 2003. She is married and has 2 dogs and 2 cats and lives in Chapel Hill, NC. She grew up in Chapel Hill and attended Chapel Hill High School. She went to college at Furman University in Greenville, SC where she majored in Psychology. She attended graduate school at UNC.

Mrs. Atkins and her husband are huge Duke fans and attend every home football game. When they're lucky, they get to attend a basketball game too! Mrs. Atkins stays very busy at school but when she has free time she likes to read and enjoy warm weather.

During the summer, Mrs. Atkins works with the Counseling and Student Services department as the lead counselor for the federal Project SUCCESS grant. This grant is the reason that we are lucky enough at Millbrook to have two counselors. Mrs. Atkins was also named the 2007 School Counselor of the Year for Wake County. In 2009, Mrs. Atkins was named the North Carolina School Counselor of the Year. She received her National Board for Professional Teaching Certification in 2009 as well. It was a good year!

Mrs. Atkins favorite day at school is the first day - there is so much excitement in the air as a new year begins!
